Situated in the heart of the Costa del Sol, Benal Beach is conveniently close to several places of interest.
Benalmedina is an excellent base for a good holiday. There are countless restaurants, bars, parks, casino, aqua parks, able cars to the mountains-to Tivoli World and the zoo. The sandy beaches seem endless.
The Benal Beach Complex is only 15 minutes from Malaga airport by taxi (about €20/€25) or a short walk to the railway station for a train to Arroyo de Miel (Benalmedina) station taking 17 minutes for €1.50. A taxi for €5.00 or a 25 minute walk downhill past shops, restaurants, a supermarket and through the beautiful Paloma Park will bring you to the Complex.
Benalmedina Marina is a short walk along the beach promenade. It has won many awards for its Moorish design and layout. It is a safe haven for yachts and boats, and on the quay sides are many fashionable shops and restaurants.
Mijas is a white washed village about 25 minutes away with quaint old narrow streets, art and craft shops, and course restaurants.
Malaga is the nearest big city about half hour away by local buses. It has countless shops, restaurants, hotels, banks, local busses and a metro system. It has a good beach, and a cargo and passenger port. As a historic city it has Roman and Moorish remains and monuments.
Fuengirola is 10 minutes away with a long sandy beach. It has 3 markets each week with the biggest weekly car boot sale on the Costa del Sol.
If you would like to hire a car for your stay we can recommend a company which we sometimes use, the car can be picked up on arrival at the airport and returned when you depart. There is also a car hire shop in Benal Beach both are reasonably priced. You can also hire scooters locally. There is a cab rank outside the apartment block, and plenty of bus stops very nearby.
The park is a Heritage site that covers over 200,000 sq meters with a large central lake with a 30m fountain is only a few minutes walk, a lovely place to stroll in the evenings or take the children. The large lake, is home to all sorts wildlife, including birds, swans, ducks and turtles. The other residents in the park include peacocks, all sorts of hens, rabbits and ostriches. There are enclosed areas for children to play and also a little zoo with emus, goats and deer. In the north of the park is an immense display of about 2000 cacti which give a fantastic colourful show of flowers. Beside the park is Selwo Marina, where you can see the dolphins, penguins, sea lions and parrot shows.
Golf. The nearest course is the Torrequebrada which has a very fine 18 hole course. Malaga has 2, Mijas 4, and Fuengirola 4 courses all within a 20 min drive.
Markets. Mon - Marbella Centre. Tue – Fuengirola. Wed - Mijas and Benalmedina behind Poloma Park. Thu - Marbella West and Torrermolinos. Fri – Benalmedina at Tivoli World. Sat – Fuengirola and Mijas. Sun – Fuengirola in the port and Sotogrande art and craft market.
There are many places to visit - Gibraltar for duty free shopping also the cable car up the rock to see the apes. Torremolinos and Fuengirola are on either side of Benalmadena both have good beaches and night life. A bit further away there is Marbella, Mijas, Calahonda, Malaga, Estepona and the vibrant and exclusive Puerto Banus with all its wonderful designer shops.
